The purpose of a blasting mat
A blasting mat is a heavy rubber cover laid over a charged blast area before firing. Its job is to absorb and redirect energy so rock fragments are contained rather than thrown outside the blast zone.
Mats are used wherever blasting happens near something that must be protected: a public road, a plant building, a haul route, buried services, a crusher, or a crew working nearby.
How mats are built
Mats are built from heavy rubber sections assembled and bound so the mat holds together under repeated impact. Wire ropes and lifting attachments let the mat be moved by machine between blasts.
Because sites differ, the useful mat is the one that matches your bench size, your lifting equipment and your handling method — not a generic size.
What to consider before buying
Confirm the area you need to cover and how many mats that implies, the maximum weight your excavator or loader can lift safely, how often the mats will be moved, and where they will be stored between blasts.
